 The lights in the Starbucks glowed softly, casting yellow light over the tables.  It was late, but there were no visible clocks for a patron to see.  A man sat at a table near the wall of windows that overlooked the empty city streets.  A small plate with a cold, untouched sandwich sat on the table with a cup of Americano right next to it.  A plain black iPhone lay close to the man's hand as he stared at it expectantly.  The two baristas behind the counter took no notice to the man and treated him like he was not there.  The man took a sip of his drink when the phone lit up and vibrated twice.  The man set his drink down and slid his finger

The Headmaster was a relatively well-respected man among the staff and students.  But just like other people he had his share of enemies.  Not everyone liked the idea of mixed race classes.  Traditionalists would sometimes impose threats upon the Academy, however its defenses prevented any real action.  Even so there are students who were raised like that and showed contempt towards the Headmaster's ways.  The Headmaster had son who also attended the school and was in the same grade as us.  We had met during my first year at the Academy and we seemed to get along pretty well.  By the end of the first school year I had made friends with not on

At that point in time I didn't know what was reality and what was a dream.  The next time I opened my eyes I was lying in a hospital bed.  Apparently I was found wondering on the outskirts of a town all alone half an hour after a large explosion occurred at another town a few miles south.  The nurses were very confused at first when I woke up.  Something about how the people who found me told them that I had blue eyes when they needed to record down my physical appearance for some sort of record.  They tried asking me questions about my identity and where I'd come from, but I couldn't remember anything.  No one in the town knew me and it was

 There was screaming and darkness all around me.  Angry shouts filled the air and then suddenly a wall of flames shot up, preventing me from escaping.  I reached a hand out towards the dancing flames and tried to shout something, but my voice was choked with fear.  A voice that seemed to echo in my mind said,  "Be still."  I flinched and was about to look for the source of the voice, but then the flames suddenly grew brighter and started to converge on me all at once.  The flames hugged me in a motherly way before a wave of nausea hit me and I blacked out.  The warmth of the flames was extinguished and was replaced with a bone-numbing chill.
